The Ten Education Commandments for Parents

Jordan Intermediate will be offering the Ten Education Commandments classes for parents. Classes will focus on what parents of junior high students need to know and ways that parents and students can prepare for high school and college success. The topic for the last class will include school safety and information regarding Common Core Standards for next year. Classes are offered in English, Vietnamese, and Spanish. Free child care will be provided.

Listed below are the Ten Education Commandments.

  1. Commit as a family to be involved in school.
  2. Learn how the schools are ordered. (Preschool thru College)
  3. Learn what my child needs to graduate successfully from high school.
  4. Support the learning of Mathematics, Science, and English.
  5. Understand how grades work. (A, B, C, D, F)
  6. Encourage my child to take honors and advanced courses.
  7. Help my child prepare for college early.
  8. Realize college is affordable.
  9. Do my part in helping my child study.
  10. Teach my child to hope and visualize their future.

40 Developmental Assets for Adolescents

Search Institute has identified the following building blocks of healthy development—known as Developmental Assets—that help young children grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.

This particular list is intended for adolescents (age 12-18).
